QUESTIONS LEADERS ASK

Interim CMO, answered plainly.

What is an interim CMO?

An interim CMO is a senior marketing leader who steps in full speed for a defined period, usually during a transition. The job is to keep the team moving, fix what’s broken and hand off to a permanent leader with a clear plan.

When does a company need an interim CMO?

Most often when a CMO leaves suddenly, after an acquisition, before a sale or recapitalization, or when a big launch or turnaround can’t wait for a long search.

How long does an interim CMO engagement last?

Usually three to nine months. It ends when your permanent leader is in the seat and up to speed, or when the business no longer needs a full-time role.

What’s the difference between an interim CMO and a fractional CMO?

An interim CMO works close to full time for a set stretch to cover a gap. A fractional CMO works part time on an ongoing basis. Many companies start interim, then move to fractional once things are stable.

Will you help us hire the permanent CMO?

Yes. I help define the role and scorecard, interview candidates and onboard the new leader with a documented plan, dashboards and a team that knows its priorities.
